Kumaon Experience by Itmenaan Lodges

Kumaon Experience – Two Stays, One Blissful Escape

Tucked away in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, the Kumaon region feels like a beautiful secret still largely untouched by the hordes. Here, snow-clad peaks crown the horizon, oak and rhododendron forests glow in the soft mountain light, and terraced fields tumble down to lively streams.

The charm of Kumaon landscapes is enhanced by its people — warm, gentle and deeply rooted in their traditions. Ancient temples like Jageshwar, Neem Karauli and Chitai, and hill towns like Almora, Bhimtal and Nainital add layers of history, wilderness and easy hillside charm.

We invite to see our Kumaon Region the Itmenaan way with stay at Fredy’s Bungalow and Itmenaan Estate

Excursions from Itmenaan Estate

There are plenty of attractions around Itmenaan Estate for half day or a full day excursions

Jageshwar and Chitai Temples

Just a short drive from the estate lies the spiritual heart of Kumaon — ancient temples surrounded by deodar forests and whispered legends. These timeless shrines, with their intricate stonework and mountain serenity, offer both cultural depth and natural beauty.

Chitai Golu Devta Temple: Known as the ‘Temple of a Thousand Bells,’ where visitors offer bells as prayers.
Jageshwar Temple Complex: A UNESCO-recognized cluster of over 100 ancient Shiva temples dating back to the 9th century. The drive to Jageshwar from Itmenaan is also very scenic
Local Craft Shops: Small stalls near the temples selling brass bells, handmade woollens, and organic honey.
Forest Drive to Jageshwar: A scenic route through dense pine and cedar woods, perfect for a half-day outing.

Almora Town and Market

Perched on a horse-shoe ridge, Almora is a delightful mix of old-world charm and mountain bustle. Its cobbled lanes, sloping rooftops, and lively bazaars reveal the cultural rhythm of Kumaon. A visit here blends history, handicrafts, and Himalayan hospitality.

Lala Bazaar: A 200-year-old market famous for copperware, woollens, and local sweets like bal mithai.
Bright End Corner: A serene viewpoint offering majestic sunsets and Himalayan panoramas.
Temples of Nanda Devi & Kasar Devi: Ancient shrines with sweeping views and a peaceful atmosphere.
Café Hopping: Enjoy local teas, bakery treats, and casual rooftop cafés overlooking the valley.

Wildlife and Birding

The region around Itmenaan Estate is surrounded pine forests, and oak-covered slopes. It is a haven for bird lovers and nature enthusiasts. The tranquil landscape hums with the songs of Himalayan bulbuls, laughing thrushes, and sunbirds — a paradise for those who enjoy quiet observation and slow discovery.

Birding tours: Guided birding tours can be arranged for interested guests. The tour will include a visit to small waterfall about 45 min walk from Itmenaan Estate
Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary: Spot over 200 bird species including barbets, woodpeckers, and partridges at the Sanctuary. (Around 1.5 hours drive from the estate)
Almora Zoo: A short drive from the Chitai temple, you can see majestic leopards in Almora zoo. The zoo is very small and the key attractions are the man eating leopards
